The Tides have Turned! Bay Area teams on the Brink!

The Cardinals are all smiles now that they have evened the series at 1-1 going to Washington

Oh man, how things can change in one game. The Washington Nationals stole game 1 late, and took an early advantage in the series. The Cardinals knew they could not lose the second game t home before going back on the road. In the second inning, Mike Matheny saw that Jaime Garcia was ineffective, and went to his bullpen after going down 2-1 early. This was to buy time for the offense to hit their stride, and they exploded. Beltran went deep twice, along with home runs by Daniel Descalso and Allen Craig, paced the offense to a 12-4 win. Lance Lynn, who won 18 games this season, pitched 3 shutout innings before giving way to the bulpen to close out the game.

Baltimore fans were out in full force last night, to secure the teams first playoff win in 15 years.

What is there to say about the O’s vs. Yankees game last night, other than I am excited for the final 3 games of the series. After the Yankees jumped out to an early lead on Ichiro’s acrobatics, the Orioles fought back. Wei-Yin Chen, making his postseason debut, faced a Andy Pettite and a Yankee lineup with all the postseason experience in the world. Many expected Chen to falter, but he ended up shutting down the Yankees and allowing only 1 earned run in 6 1/3 innings before giving way to the bullpen with the lead in tact. From there, the Orioles faithful got more and more into the game, getting louder and louder as the game got into the later innings. When closer Jim Johnson, the same guy who gave up 5 runs the night before, struck out A-Rod to end the game, Camden Yards erupted. The Orioles have evened their series with a pivotal game 3 in the Bronx Wednesday coming up.

A’s and Giants on the brink. Can they extend their series one more game?

Sunday was rough, not only for the Oakland A’s, but also for the San Francisco Giants. Now there is the prospect that both teams could get swept and knocked out of the playoffs faster than we can blink. But both teams are resilient and tough and should be able to make it interesting.

The Giants have a tough task ahead, facing a 97 win team on the road, having to win a game by Barry Zito to advance. Not likely, but you never know with these Giants. They shocked the world 2 years ago with their magical run to the World Series title, and I would not be surprised if they won a game or two in Cincinnati before this is over.

The A’s on the other hand, return home for the final three games of the series. Their task is still very tough, but with 3 straight home games, they just need a little momentum to get started. Don’t forget this is the same team that won 3 straight games in a similar scenario to unseat the Texas Rangers from the AL West crown.

Tonight’s games will be tough for the Bay Area faithful, but I look for them both to bounce back and extend their series one more day.
